Iloilo City takes possession of YMCA lot and building

ILOILO City – The city government took possession of the YMCA (Young Men’s Christian Association) Building and the lot where it is situated on Iznart Street, City Proper.

According to Atty. GV Cuñada of the City Legal Office, the management failed to pay their taxes.

“Ang lote nga ginatindugan sang building upod sa iban pa nga building sa subong nakapangalan sa syudad sang Iloilo, may titulo ang syudad. Ang sa building, improvements kag lote, ang tax declaration ara man sa pangalan sang syudad. Bilang tag-iya may derecho ang syudad nga mag possess,” Cuñada explained.

The city government filed a petition for the issuance of a Writ of Possession recently and this was granted by the Regional Trial Court (RTC).

The Writ of Possession was served on Wednesday to the management of YMCA.

Cuñada said the YMCA management was actually given a couple of days to vacate.

Pag-expire sang period nga ginhatag sa ila sang sheriff sang RTC, nagkadto ang city government upod ang sheriff, police kag barangay kahapon (March 2) sang aga and then gin implement ang Writ of Possession, nag-conduct sang inventory kag gin-turn over/deliver sang sheriff sa city government,” Cuñada.

If the YMCA management has other legal remedies to take, they may do so, said Cuñada, but as far as the city government is concerned, it is the property owner.

As to the building tenants, if they want to stay they have to cooperate with the city government.

“Ginatagaan man sila sang choice. Kon magtinir sila, ang renta sa city nila ihatag, kon indi sila magtinir ti indi man sila pagpunggan,” said Cuñada./PN
