BACOLOD City – The Negros Consumers Watch (NCW) has joined calls from the local transport sector for the national government to defer the 12 percent value added tax and excise tax for fuel.

There’s another round of fuel price hike today – with gasoline’s price to increase by almost P7 and diesel by P12.00.

Meanwhile, both the Sentrong Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operators Negros (SSTONE) and the Federation of Bacolod City Drivers Association (FEBACDA) changed their stance and announced too that they are joining the two-day protest set from March 21 to 22.

In a statement, the NCW is also calling on the national government’s intervention by implementing price controls on all primary commodities.

NCW is also calling on the government to immediately distribute the financial assistance of P6,500 to drivers of public utility vehicles (PUV), including the P7,200 for the PUV operators.

The group is also demanding to scrap the Oil Deregulation Law.

The strike will be from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m. from March 21 and 22./PN
