
ILOILO City – The Department of Health (DOH) in Western Visayas extended the National Vaccination Days (NVD) 4 to March 18. It was supposed to end on March 12.
DOH Region 6 Senior Health Program Officer IV John Richard Lapascua said the extension hopes to reach more target population, especially the Priority Group A2 or the senior citizens.
DOH-6 data showed 68,562 individuals who got vaccinated (either second dose or booster dose) from March 10 to 13 during the NVD4. This comprises 44.49 percent of the 154,097 target for NVD 4.
Break ing down per province and highly urbanized cities, 2,671 were vaccinated in Aklan; 4,679 in Antique; 3,342 in Capiz; 2,868 in Guimaras; 20,138 in Iloilo province; 20,582 in Negros Occidental; 9,463 in Bacolod City; and 4,819 ini Iloilo City.
Only the province of Guimaras accomplished a hundred percent (100.14 percent) or 2,868 of its 2,864 target for the NVD 4.
As for target A2 population for the three-day NVD 4, of the 52 731 targets only 6.38 percent or 3,365 have been vaccinated.
“According to our IATF and health experts, sila gid ni tani ang mga priority groups naton nga unahon bakunahan because mataas ang risk for infection, risk of suffering severe COVID-19 mataas man that’s way back last year, priority na naton sila nga bakunahan ang aton A2 target population,” said Lapascua.
He noted that some senior citizens don’t want to get boosters anymore because that the primary doses are already enough.
As of March 14 data from DOH-6, of the 864,891 target senior citizens, 62.95 percent or 544, 470 were already fully vaccinated while 2,400 or 0.28 percent were partially vaccinated, and 107,459 or 12.42 percent already received booster shots.
Lapascua said that the DOH has given importance for the vaccination of the senior citizens especially that they are the second priority groups./PN
