ILOILO City – Two Bacolod City-based volleyball teams are set to join the 2022 Mayor JPT New Normal Volleyball Invitational Tournament starting today at the University of San Agustin Extension Campus in Jaro district.
Chery Tiggo Thunderbolts and Toby’s Sports-Bacolod, composed of players from the national U-17 girls volleyball team, will be among the 11 teams participating in the three-day event.
The Thunderbolts are to be led by Annikha Cabasac, Katherine Shaine Cortez, Alex Montoro, Jan Ysabelle Chua, Gwen Bañas, Amber Biong, and Jermaine Joniega.
Also part of the team to be handled by Roberto Calamba Jr. were Patricia grace Hiponia, Alexa Bertolano, Aurea Alvero, Alijah Ysulan, Cheska Peñol, Elphie Cahilig and Antheia Galicia.
The Thunderbolts were fresh from clinching a championship in the girls division of the one-day Bacolod Negros Volleyball Legends tournament earlier this month.
The Toby’s Sport Bacolod, on the other hand, will have Ilonggas Ana Francessca Hermusora, Mary Karylle Suplico, Zacchea Venize Maganto and Camila Amor Bartolome as its players.
Completing the squad of Ian Macariola were Kimberly Rubin, Jan Rose Bulak, Rhose Viane Almendralejo, Lana Madrigal, Caitlin Espinosa, Keziah Celine Delos Reyes, Jothea Ramos, Joenil Ramos and Dona Mae De Leon.
The U-17 team, which finished at fourth place in Bacolod City recently, were preparing for the 14th Asian Women’s U-17 Volleyball Championships slated this June in Uzbekistan.
Aside from the two, the other teams in the girls division were Michael’s Volleyball Club A and B, Iloilo City Sports Academy A and B, Talisay City, Joanne Angels, J. Blazers, Aklan Volleyball Club and Guimaras.
Meanwhile, 13 teams are set to slug it out in the men’s category namely Antique Vball Acers, Gings-LSIS, San Miguel Latino, Central Philippine University, Guimaras, Aklan Volleyball Club, University of San Agustin, IDC-Alumni, Raiders, U-VEC, Western Institute of Technology, Antique and Silay City./PN
