ILOILO City – Toby’s Sports-Bacolod secured a semifinals seat in the women’s division of the 2022 Mayor JPT New Normal Volleyball Invitational Tournament on Wednesday at the University of San Agustin Extension Campus in Jaro, Iloilo.
Toby’s Sports-Bacolod completed a sweep of their Group A matches after a 25-16, 25-15 win over Guimaras. Ilongga Ana Hermosura was named as the player of the match.
Earlier in the day, the squad, which was composed of players from the national U-17 girls volleyball team, cruised to a 25-14, 25-20 domination over Talisay City.
On Tuesday, Toby’s Sports-Bacolod hacked out a 25-15, 25-16 sweep over Iloilo City Sports Association-A and a 25-13, 25-10 domination over Dumangas.
The Ian Macariola-mentored Toby’s Sports-Bacolod will face the no.2 seed squad in Group B in the crossover semifinals today. Championship will also be this afternoon.
The Toby’s Sports-Bacolod were using the tournament as part of their preparation for the Asian U-17 girls volleyball tournament to be held later this year.
Chery Tiggo Thunderbolts, composed of players from Bacolod Tay Tung High School, also clinched a semifinals seat after finishing their Group B assignment with 4-0.
The Thunderbolts opened the day with a 25-19, 25-21 sweep over fellow Bacolod City-based team Michael’s Volleyball Club. Alex Montoro was hailed as the Player of the Game.
In their final game last night, the Thunderbolts, which is being handled by Roberto Calamba Jr., scored a 25-13, 25-13 straight set triumph over Aklan.
On Tuesday, the Thunderbolts started their campaign with a 25-12, 25-8 annihilation of Iloilo City Sports Association-B before a 25-21, 25-11 sweep over J.Blazers./PN
