ILOILO – Zarraga is the sole municipality in this province with no more active case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), data from the Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO) as April 2 showed.
Since the pandemic started in 2020, Zarraga recorded 919 cases of which 902 recovered. Seventeen cases died.
The past week, Zarraga recorded no new COVID-19 cases.
Zarraga, according to the 2020 census, has a population of 27,305 people in 24 barangays. It is 16 kilometers north of Iloilo City.
People can catch COVID-19 from others who have the virus. The disease can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales.
These droplets also land on objects and surfaces around the person. Other people then catch COVID-19 by touching these objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth.
As of April 2, Iloilo had 556 active cases. IPHO data showed these to be in the following towns:
* Oton (27), Pavia (27), Santa Barbara (20), Passi City (13),Pototan (37), Miag-ao (10), San Joaquin (three), Guimbal (seven), Lambunao (seven), Sara (24), Concepcion (15), Janiuay (12), Leganes (four), Alimodian (five), Tigbauan (six), Cabatuan (21), Barotac Nuevo (25), Leon (19), Dumangas (28), Calinog (17), Igbaras (four)
* Dingle (33), San Miguel (seven), Maasin (11), San Dionisio (seven), Banate (eight), San Enrique (nine), Ajuy (18), Badiangan (nine), New Lucena (nine), Carles (six), Barotac Viejo (seven), Lemery (18), Dueñas (10), Estancia (18), Mina (11), Anilao (11), Balasan (eight), San Rafael (nine), Tubungan (one), Batad (six), and Bingawan (nine).
“Gina-encourage ko gid ang aton mga pumuluyo nga unvaccinated nga magkadto sa aton vaccination sites,” said Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares- Quiñon, head of the IPHO.
As of March 31, 1,136,206 individuals in the province were already considered fully vaccinated./PN
