Three venues, one mission.

Some 900 senior citizens went home with smiles on their faces after receiving gift packs from no less than the No. 1 regional newspaper in the country, Panay News. This gift-giving activity was made possible by the newspaper’s corporate arm, the Daniel G. Fajardo Foundation Inc.

On March 27, 2022, Panay News and the Daniel G. Fajardo Foundation Inc. went to Barangay San Pedro, San Jose, Antique to kickstart their gift-giving program, which saw 500 senior citizens receiving specially prepared gift packs.

Atty. Abdiel Dan Elijah “Ade” Fajardo, Chairman of the Board of Panay News Inc., led the activity.

On the same day, Panay News and the Foundation also went to Robinsons Place Antique for another batch of recipients composed of 200 senior citizens from Barangay 8, San Jose, Antique.

According to Atty. Ade, they choose Antiqueños to be among the newspaper company’s beneficiaries as a way of looking back to where their parents started making a life of their own as a married couple. Atty. Ade is one of the sons of Maria Santillan-Fajardo and the late Daniel Gumban-Fajardo, founder of Panay News.

Atty. Ade said that they wanted to keep the legacy of their parents, especially that of their deceased father, by continuing the traditions of charity and gratitude that Panay News has upheld in its now 41 years of existence.

“Our parents taught us to look back, give back, and offer help to others, especially senior citizens,” said Atty. Ade, who hoped that they were able to spark joy in the hearts of Antique’s elderly through the annual gift-giving program.

The Antique beneficiaries expressed their gratefulness to Panay News and the Foundation. One of them is the 73-year-old Salvacion Ustan of Barangay 8, San Jose, Antique.

“Thank you so much for remembering us seniors, Panay News!” said Ustan.

Barangay Captain Victorino Alojipan Jr. of San Pedro, San Jose, Antique also thanked Panay News for the gifts the latter has given to their elderly residents.

“This act of giving, no matter how simple, made our senior citizens truly happy. They are happy that someone remembered them. That’s what counts most,” said Alojipan.

Filipina M. Bernarte, head of the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs of San Jose and president of the Senior Citizens Chapter in Barangay San Pedro, San Jose, Antique, shared the same sentiment with Alojipan.

“Many, many thanks to Panay News for the gifts that you have given us,” said Bernarte.

On March 29, 2022, another gift-giving activity for the third batch of beneficiaries was conducted in Robinsons Place Pavia in Iloilo. This time, the activity was led by Daniel “Dan” S. Fajardo II, Chief Operating Officer of Panay News Inc.

The recipients were composed of 200 senior citizens from Barangay Ungka I, Pavia, Iloilo. Aside from surprise games, a dance number was also performed by employees of Panay News to entertain the beneficiaries.
