ILOILO City – Essential offices at city hall are on alert this week to ensure the smooth observance of Holy Week, especially Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, said Mayor Jerry Treñas.
These are the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Public Safety and Transportation Management Office, and City Health Office.
The city government will deploy personnel in churches.
“Para kon ano gid man sitwasyon nga kinanglan maatendir, we are immediately ready,” said Treñas.
To give city hall employees more time to meaningfully commemorate Holy Week, the city hall closed beginning Wednesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Treñas appealed to the public to reflect while at home , especially about the incoming elections.
“Let us all reflect upon the works of our Lord Jesus Christ and how they are still relevant to us, especially during the coming elections,” said Treñas.
He added: “Let us always try to live the life of Christ in all our dealings with our friends and most especially our enemies. A blessed week to everyone.”
PRO-6 HOLY WEEK SECURITY
All security measures are in place to ensure a safe Holy Week, according to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO- 6).
An additional 1,700 police personnel are being mobilized to secure vital government installations, tourist destinations, transportation hubs and other places of convergence, said PRO-6 director, Police Brigadier General Flynn Dongbo.
The PRO-6 is also tapping local government units, (LGU), barangay officials and force multipliers to assist policemen.
Random checkpoints are being set up.
Dongbo reminded the general public to make sure their houses are closed, no appliances are unattended/unplugged, and avoid posting in their social media account of their whereabouts.
“I recommended to have the contact numbers of rescue groups, Bureau of Fire Protection and nearby police units in case of emergency. These agencies will provide assistance. It is our goal that everyone is safe during the entire holy week celebration,” Dongbo added./PN
