BORACAY – The inbound tourist arrivals dramatically rise during the Holy Week celebration in Boracay Island in 2022, reaching around 45,000 visitors.
Two years after the pandemic, Boracay Island had seen the impact of devastating global tourism with a record low in tourist arrivals and revenues even a rebooted travel tourism.
As forecast, the island welcomed the highest volume of travelers in 2022 compared to the previous year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In 2021, only 836 tourists visited Boracay Island during the Holy Week (March 29, 2021, to April 4, 2021). For the Lenten break from April 11 to 17, 2022, the island rebounded with 44,981 tourists, up by 5,281 percent versus the Holy Week last year.
Good Friday to Easter Sunday (April 15 to 17) recorded 17,003 visitors, while Maundy Thursday (April 14) had 12,266 tourists and Holy Monday to Holy Wednesday with 15,712, the Malay Municipal Tourism Office said.
This year, Boracay’s struggling tourism sector had witnessed a boom in tourist arrivals and it comes as no surprise that the island attracts more tourists with the lifting of travel restrictions.
Boracay registered 368,223 visitors from January 1 to April 17. Of this number 100,945 domestic and foreign tourists stayed on the island in April.
Travelers to Boracay Island are required to show proof of vaccination before entry, without the need to quarantine. Face coverings are recommended on public transport and places.
Meanwhile, authorities deployed more personnel and law enforcers to ensure the safety of residents and tourists in relation to the observance of Holy Week 2022./PN
