ILOILO City – Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) director, Police Colonel Leo Batiles, warned the public against persons or groups soliciting money or donations using his name.
“Budol-budol ina sila. Wala ako nagapangayo cell phone load. May inogbakal ya ako load,” Batiles said.
An employee of the city government’s Local Economic Enterprise Office was victimized last week by a person that namedropped Batiles, or even pretended to be Batiles.
“May nanawag. Sia kuno si Colonel Batlies…nagpa-prepare sang groceries kay may bisita sia kuno. Pagkatapos, nangayo cell phone worth P300,” said ICPO spokesperson, Major Shella Mae Sangrines.
The employee complied with the instructions, only to realize too late that he was bamboozled.
The ICPO urged the public to immediately alert it when encountering similar situations. Its hotline numbers are 0908-377-0194 and 337-0400./PN
