ILOILO City — The accomplishment of the city government in the administration of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) booster shots – be it first booster or second booster — is low, data from the City Health Office (CHO) showed.
As of May 25, 147,321 individuals in the city have so far received their first booster shots, or 28.06 percent of the 525,000 target population, while only 730 got their second booster doses, representing 0.14 percent of the target population.
Mayor Jerry Treñas reiterated his call to everyone who have not received booster shot to get them.
COVID-19 vaccinations, primary or booster, are available at the city’s various district health centers.
For second booster dose, the city mayor called on all qualified senior citizens, persons with comorbidities and healthcare workers to have them as added protection.
The national government approved the rollout of second COVID-19 booster shots for immunocompromised persons, regardless of which priority sector they belong to, followed by healthcare workers and the elderly or senior citizens as the first priority.
Treñas had earlier appealed for Alert Level 0 because cases of COVID-19 in IIoilo City were already declining.
However, because of the city’s low accomplishment in first booster shot administration, the request was turned down.
The city must have at least 70 percent of its target population given booster shots for it to be qualified for a lowest alert level status.
Meanwhile, Iloilo City already fully vaccinated 472,166 or 89.94 percent and partially vaccinated 487,972 or 92.95 percent of its target population./PN
