MANILA – Javee Mocon and Robbie Herndon are set to don new jerseys in the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup after being traded away by their former squads on Tuesday.
The 6-foot-0 Mocon is set to take his talents to the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters after being shipped by his former team Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.
In return, the Elasto Painters received sophomore forward Nicholas Demusis as well as the Fuel Masters’ 2023 first round and 2024 second round draft picks.
The transfer of the former San Beda University Red Lions to the Fuel Masters is a relief for him after failing to reach a contract extension agreement with the Elasto Painters during the offseason.
Phoenix also sees Mocon’s arrival as a welcome sight especially with star gunner Matthew Wright reportedly moving to Japan B.League at the expiration of his current contract this August.
The Elasto Painters, on the other hand, got an additional wing player in Demusis, who was on the radar of Rain or Shine head coach Chris Gavina since last year.
Herndon, for his part, is moving out of Converge FiberXers, formerly Alaska Aces, after being traded to San Miguel Beermen for two future second round picks.
The FiberXers first signed Herndon to a one-year contract extension on Monday afternoon before immediately dealing him to the Beermen the next day.
Herndon’s trade to the Beermen came a week after the FiberXers put him on the trading block due to disagreements on negotiations for a contract extension.
Both Mocon and Herndon can make their debuts for their new teams when the Fuel Masters and the Beermen clash at second game tonight at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
In another development, Converge has finally come to terms with veteran guard Maverick Ahanmisi for a contract renewal on Monday, making him the 14th player in FiberXers’ roster./PN
