ILOILO City – Reelected Councilor Candice Magdalane Tupas took her oath of office on June 7 before a barangay captain.

This was symbolic of her commitment to serve the people down to the barangays, she said.

The barangay captain was Sergio Causing of Barangay PHC Block 17, Mandurriao district.

Causing was also the president of the Liga ng mga Barangay of Mandurriao.

“This is in honor of the barangay leaders and people from the barangays who stood by me, who made me win again,” said Tupas, a physician who will be serving her third consecutive term as councilor beginning June 30.

Her taking an oath before Causing was actually a first in a series of swearing-in ceremonies she will be undertaking.

Tupas will also join the oath-taking ceremony at city hall of Mayor Jerry Treñas, her wedding godfather, on June 27.

The following day she would be sworn-in again at the Iloilo provincial capitol by Sen. Sonny Angara.

Tupas said she was actually set to take her oath before Angara on June 8 in Manila but this did not push through.

In 2019 after she won her second term, Tupas took her oath of office before Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri.

In 2016, she was sworn in by Jaro district Liga nga mga Barangay president Eva Palmejar, then mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and then congressman Jerry Treñas./PN
