ILOILO City – Barely a week after the launching of its Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP), this southern city received inquiries from seven highly urbanized cities (HUCs) outside Visayas region.

According to Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) head Jeck Conlu, representatives and point persons of these local government units (LGUs) called him up asking for guidance about their respective LPTRP.

Conlu declined to name these LGUs for the meantime but noted that they signified to visit Iloilo City soon.

Conlu said these LGUs are either have not completed their LPTRP yet or are yet to implement it.

“Naga-inquire sila kon ano na mga process ang ginpang-obra naton,” he said.

Iloilo City is one of the LGUs in the country that have its local route plan approved and implemented.

The PSTMO chief explained that the LGUs’ approved local route plan is vital especially on the part of the transport cooperatives that are currently making efforts and on the process of modernizing the transport system by purchasing modernized jeepneys.

Conlu stressed that the LPTRP is a requirement for the bank loan applications of transport groups which they will be using in purchasing modernized jeeps.

On the part of Iloilo City, Conlu shared that prior to the approval of LPTRP, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) sent communications to the city government reminding them of their LPTRP.

Iloilo City’s LPTRP was three years in the making before it was finally approved in November 2021.

“After it was approved and eventually adopted by the city council through an ordinance, we have no choice but to implement it already,” said Conlu./PN
