ILOILO – The provincial government has started releasing funds to 15 towns for the procurement of rescue boats that would be used when flood strikes for search, rescue and relief operations.
The following will receive P2 million each: Banate, Mina, Guimbal, Zarraga, Lambunao, Balasan, Batad, Ajuy, Lemery, Barotac Viejo, San Dionisio, Maig-ao, San Joaquin, Dingle, and Sara.
Five of them received the funds early (Friday, June 17), during the “Limpyo sa Hunyo: Panglimpyo para sa Dengue kag Baha” launching – Zarraga, Guimbal, Lambunao, Banate and Balasan.
Cheques were turnd over by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
According PDRRMO head Dr. Jerry Bionat, local governments should strive to improve their disaster response capabilities and the provincial government is willing to help them achieve this.
“Indi na sila maghulat sa pag-respond naton sa provincial government. Sila mismo sa idalom makahulag dayun in case may kinahanglan sila i-rescue,” he stressed.
But Bionat stressed the importance of training the towns’ responders on how to use rescue boats. He said the PDRRMO is ready to offer technical assistance./PN
