BORACAY – A hotel warehouse in Barangay Balabag burnt down past midnight on June 17.

The blaze totally damaged the warehouse of Aqua Boracay in Sitio Bulabog, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) substation.

Arson investigator Fire Officer 1 Teody Mark Emilia said the damage was estimated to have reached P5 million.

“Ayon sa security guard, narinig niya na may pumutok doon sa warehouse. Iimbestigahin pa rin natin ang dahilan ng sunog. Malayo naman ito sa mga hotel rooms at ligtas ang kanilang mga bisita,” he said.

Fire fighters and fire trucks of BFP-Boracay, Boracay Fire Rescue and Ambulance Volunteers, Savoy Hotel Boracay, Shangri-La Boracay, Fairways and Bluewater Boracay and the water tankers of Boracay Tubi System Inc. and Boracay Water Company were sent to contain the warehouse fire.

The fire was placed under control at 1:32 a.m. and completely put out an hour after.

There were no casualties or injuries, according to the BFP.

Just this June 2, fire broke out in a residential area here, leaving 21 families homeless before dusk.

The BFP received the fire call at 5:38 p.m. Fire trucks and fire volunteer groups responded to the fire scene in Sitio Cabanbanan, Barangay Manocmanoc.

The houses were made of light materials, thus the fire spread easily.

Eleven houses totally went up in flames, while five houses were partially destroyed.

Arson investigator Fire Officer 3 Melvin Porras said initial damage to property was placed at P225,000. No firefighters were injured in the blaze, the BFP added./PN
