ILOILO – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the New People’s Army (NPA) clashed on Sunday in Barangay Danao, Leon town.
Personnel of the Philippine Army’s 61st Infantry Battalion were having an offensive operation. and checked the information sent to them by the concern citizen .
The exchange of fire erupted at around 3:30 p.m. There were seven armed insurgents.
The encountered lasted for one minute; the NPA quickly withdrew, according to Captain Kim Apitong, spokesperson of the 3rd Infantry Divisi on (3iD).
They were seen fleeing to Barangay Bucari, Leon.
Apitong said that there were no casualties in the part of the army.
The seven rebels were members of the Sibat Platoon, Komiting Rehiyon Panay.
“Troops in the ground are still conducting hot pursuit operation against the enemy.
The Command will continue to hunt the remaining members of this terrorist group, that is our mandate. As long as there is still time, we are inviting them to surrender,” Apitong said./PN
