ILOILO City – The city government urged massive cleanup operations in 180 barangays to combat dengue as cases reached close to a hundred.
Mayor Jerry Treñas encouraged everyone to continue regular cleanup activities in villages to get rid of dengue-carrying mosquitoes by clearing its breeding grounds.
The metropolis recorded a total of 97 cases with one death as of June 18 since Jan. 1.
As of June 11, top barangays included:
* MV Hechanova, Jaro, and Pali Benedicto, Mandurriao with five cases each
* Balabago, Jaro, and Bakhaw and Bolilao, both in Mandurriao with four cases each; and
* three cases each in San Jose, Arevalo; Ingore, La Paz, and Calahunan and Guzman-Jesena, both in Mandurriao.
City hall has alerted barangays especially with several dengue cases to conduct preventive measures against the dreaded disease caused by mosquitoes.
The public is advised not to be complacent but vigilant against dengue.
Health advocacy and campaign reiterated the 4S Strategy to include:
* Search and Destroy breeding places;
* Self Protection such as using mosquito repellants;
* Seek early consultation when experiencing symptoms such as fever from two to seven days, nosebleeding, difficulty breathing, pain behind the eyes, muscles and joints; weakness; abdominal pain and vomiting, dark-colored stool, and rashes; and
* Support spraying to prevent impending outbreak. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
