GUIMARAS – Gov. JC Rahman Nava is seeking a review of the province’s property tax valuation and assessment.
“The last time we did it was way back in 2005,” said Nava who was sworn in on June 30, 2022 at the Consolers of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Balcon Maravilla, Jordan town.
The review is one of Nava’s priority legislative agenda. He vowed to work closely with the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
“I hope we can do this in a more progressive way,” said Nava who had served as governor from 1998 to 2007 and as congressman from 2007 to 2016.
In his inaugural speech, Nava likened his return as “sweeter the second time around”.
“I will work closely with you as partners tasked to guarantee the welfare of every Guimarasnon,” said Nava.
He did not say if there would be an increase in property tax.
“In time I will discuss with you our priority legislative agenda, especially that we are into budget call this July 16,” he said.
Nava replaced as governor Samuel Gumarin who completed his three consecutive three-year terms (for a total of nine years).
Guimarin is now the mayor of the municipality of Buenavista.
“The people of Guimaras are definitely in good hands,” said Gumarin, referring to Nava.
He described Nava as an “architect of development” and “one of the most effective leaders” of Guimaras.
According to Nava, “all resources of the provincial government would be responsive to the needs
of every Guimarasnon.”/PN
