Albee to telcos: remove ‘spaghetti wires’

BY DOMINIQUE GABRIEL G. BAÑAGA

BACOLOD City – Mayor Alfredo “Albee” Benitez issued an executive order (EO) tasking telecommunications and cable television operators to remove all “spaghetti wires” from streets, sidewalks and other public places.

These are sagging and tangled electric wires, television cables and communication lines. They may be abandoned or damaged and no longer being used, and have become eyesores.

EO No. 03 series of 2022 also ordered the creation of a taskforce that would specifically target spaghetti wires.

The taskforce has Benitez as chairman, with members from the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s (SP) Committee on Laws, City Engineer’s Office, City Legal Officer, Bacolod City Police Office, representatives from the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office, City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, and the Department of Public Services.

It has a technical support group that consists of representatives from various telecommunications and cable companies, along with the Central Negros Electric Cooperative.

The new taskforce may also call upon the support of any department, office or unit of the executive branch to assist in the discharge of its functions./PN
