3 Antique villages pass pilot ‘Seal of Good Barangays’

ANTIQUE – Three barangays here passed the pilot implementation of the 2021 Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangays (SGLGB) of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

The villages are Semirara in Caluya town, Magarang in Patnongon and Barangbang in San Remigio.

To pass it, the SGLGB requires the barangays to satisfy all the three core areas – peace and order, financial administration, and disaster preparedness, and at least one out of three essential areas – social protection, business-friendliness and competitiveness, and environmental management.

“Nais kong pasalamatan at i-congratulate ang buong Barangay Semirara sa pangunguna ni punong barangay Catherine Lim sa patuloy na pagpapakita ng kaayusan sa serbisyo at malasakit sa komunidad,” said Mayor Rigil Kent Lim of Caluya.

The SGLGB has been designed to encourage barangay councils to scale up their performance and practices in good governance that accord primacy to the principles of accountability, transparency, performance, and effectiveness.

The SGLGB National Quality Committee has selected 549 barangays nationwide as national passers following a thorough evaluation of the 2021 SGLGB regional barangay entries.

Out of 549 barangays, a whooping 57 barangays are from Western Visayas, making it the region with the second highest number of passers nationwide.

The 57 barangays were from Iloilo province (28), Capiz (12), Aklan (four), Guimaras (two), Antique (three), and Negros Occidental (eight).
