BACOLOD City – Mayor Alfredo “Albee” Benitez was elected as the national chairperson of the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) during its 69th General Assembly and Election of Officers at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria in Quezon City on Thursday, July 21.
Benitez and the newly elected LMP officers took their oath before Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” C. Abalos Jr.
Benitez chairs the highest policy-making body of LCP which is the National Executive Board.
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has been elected as LCP president while Quezon City Mayor Maria Josefina Tanya “Joy” Go Belmonte Alimurung was elected executive vice president.
The LCP, established in 1988, is the official organization of the 145-strong member-cities in the Philippines and was.
Meanwhile, Benitez, who is one of the lead convenors of the Kilusan ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino (KNP), attended the launching of the said movement in Manila recently.
The KNP is a socio-civic movement aiming to reject politics of division and become a unifying factor to achieve the government’s development goals.
“This movement acknowledges no political boundaries. Everybody who cares for the welfare of the Filipino people is welcome, especially those who are committed to support President Marcos’s formula of unity in achieving what is best for this country,” Benitez said./PN
