Capitol still accepts PWD scholarship applicants

ILOILO – The Iloilo provincial government through its Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) is still accepting applications for Persons with Disability (PWDs) scholarship.

Ann Rapunzel “Rara” Ganzon, Development Management Officer 2 and PSWDO spokesperson, said they are extending the deadline for accepting applications of those who want to avail educational assistance until August 15.

As of yesterday, PSWDO has accepted more than 20 applications. There are still around 20 slots available.

For Ganzon, this will be an opportunity for PWDs to avail scholarship from the provincial government.

Kanugon sini nga opportunity, this is for college level. Any course nga uyon sang bata and any year level nagabaton kita,” Ganzon added.
PSWDO has started to accept PWD applicants for educational assistance last July 5.

An applicant for the Education Assistance Program for PWDs should be a bonafide resident of Iloilo province, a registered PWD in his/her locality with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), presently enrolled in college in any state colleges or universities within the province, has general weighted average of not less than 80 percent on Senior High School card or latest semester attended, and his/her family’s annual income is not more than P150,000.

Here are the requirements:
● accomplished application form with one 2×2 recent photo
● photocopy of PWD ID Card
● certification from MSWDO as a registered PWD
● social case study issued by the MSWDO
● certificate of residency issued by the punong barangay
● photocopy of present registration form
● certification from school not belonging to Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES) of CHED or other scholarship or grants (if applicable)
As benefits, PWDs scholars will receive the following:
● P3,500 monthly allowance
● P2,000 book allowance per semester
● P2,000 communication allowance per school year
● P2,500 research/thesis allowance
● cash incentive for graduates and those with honorable distinctions
● a total of P41,000 per school year

Applicants can get the application form from either of the following:
● Office of Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, 2nd Floor, Iloilo Provincial Capitol
● Office of Student Affairs (OSA) of West Visayas State University, Iloilo Science and Technology University, and Northern Iloilo State University
● PWD Focal Person of the City/Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office

Currently, the provincial government has 159 existing Indigenous Peoples scholars while 82 are PWD scholars./PN
