KALIBO, Aklan – The Sangguniang Bayan (SB) of Kalibo is reviewing Ordinance No. 2020-02 or the Transport and Traffic Management Code for some proposed amendments.
Transportation committee chairperson SB member Matt Aaron Guzman said various stakeholders have called for a review of Section 289 related to the collection of funeral procession permit fee charged to funeral service providers.
The funeral procession permit fee is seen as an extra burden on families grieving for the loss of their loved ones.
In the wake of criticism against Section 289, Guzman stressed they are ready to look into the imposition of P1,000 funeral procession permit fee and an additional P250 for marshal escort.
The councilor said “during these trying times, the surviving family should be spared of the additional burden of funeral procession permit fee while grieving.”
The family of the deceased already has to deal with burial fees, and the additional obligation charged to funeral service providers could make things harder for the family.
Meanwhile, bikers groups in Aklan also appealed for a review of Section 119 which requires a bicycle owner in Kalibo to register with the Transport and Traffic Management Division and pay P100 for bicycle license plate / sticker, and Section 121 which mandates bicycle riders from other municipalities that do not issue bicycle license plate / sticker have to pay P100 for a bicycle license plate / sticker to the local government of Kalibo.
On March 2, 2020, Ordinance No. 2020-002 was enacted by the Sangguniang Bayan, days before the coronavirus pandemic lockdown./PN
