KALIBO, Aklan – Learners and teachers in Aklan are set to return to schools on Aug. 22. The Department of Education is reminding them to observe coronavirus pandemic health and safety protocols.
Aklan Schools Division superintendent Dr. Feliciano Buenafe Jr. said teachers, parents and children are excited that schools are reopening. The government has taken precautions to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), he added.
So far, Aklan has reached 90 percent enrollment in public and private schools for school year 2022-2023, said Buenafe.
More than 90 percent of schools in the province are allowed to participate in blended learning modality or face-to-face classes.
Buenafe said they are pushing for more public and private schools to resume in-person classes, taking into the assessment and readiness of schools amid the ongoing pandemic.
Vaccination for learners is not required, while for teachers and non-teaching personnel, it is mandatory, especially those participating in face-to-face classes.
Students, however, are encouraged to get vaccinated against COVID-19 to prevent serious illness and death.
Learners need to wear protective facemasks and have their temperatures taken while entering the school premises.
Physical distancing in schools are also recommended to ensure children continue their education in a healthy and safe environment./PN
