“Ang dengue cases naglab-ot na sa 2,205 sa bilog nga probinsya sang Iloilo pero halin ini sang January 1 up to August 27 and may 17 na kita nga patay,” said IPHO head Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon.
Quiñon reminded those kids belonging to the 10 years old and below age group and their parents to always be cautious because the said age group is the most affected of dengue.
“Sa seventeen naton nga nagkalamatay, anum gid ang less than 10 years old. Actually, may duha kita ka infants nga four months old from Miag-ao and six months from Passi nga napatay sa dengue,” she added.
Dengue is caused by day-biting Aedes albopictus and Aedes aegypti mosquitoes that breed in clean, stagnant water.
According to the World Health Organization, individuals should suspect dengue when a high fever (40 degrees centigrade) is accompanied by two of the following symptoms: severe headache, pain behind the eyes, nausea / vomiting, swollen glands, muscle and joint pains, and rashes.
For severe dengue, the warning signs to look out for are: severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, rapid breathing, bleeding gums, blood in vomit, fatigue, and restlessness./PN
