Tay Tung, Trinity rule Rebisco Bacolod leg

BACOLOD City – Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts and Trinity Christian School showed their way during the Bacolod leg of the 2022 Rebisco Volleyball Girls 18 & Under League over the weekend at the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Gym here.

The Thunderbolts earned one of the two qualifying slots from the Bacolod leg after sweeping their bracket with wins over University of St. La Salle Lady Stingers and St. John’s Institute.

The Ian Macariola-mentored Thunderbolts drew strength from setter Katherine Shaine Cortez, Ana Francessca Hermosura, Kimberly Rubin and the defense of libero Gwen Bañas to pull off the sweep.

Also part of the Bacolod Tay Tung roster were Amber Lily Biong, Dona Mae De Leon, Jihan Chuatico, Rhose Viane Almendralejo, Patricia Hiponia, Alijah Ysulan, Jothea Mae Ramos and Alex Montoro.

“The players showed tremendous improvement compared from our last tournament,” Macariola said. “They continued with their improvement and it showed in our two wins here.”

Macariola added that the Thunderbolts were determined to go all the way to represent the Region 6 anew in the Rebisco National Finals, just like in 2019 when the team was led by now UP players Alyssa Bertolano and Joan Marie Monares.

Trinity Christian School, on the other hand, dominated the other bracket of the Bacolod City leg where they walloped Bacolod Tay Tung-Juniors High School and Living Stones International School.

The revamped Trinity Christian School was able to drew strength from guest player Mary Gwendolyn Samson, returning Sophia Kathrina Dela Cruz and newcomer Ruth Terri Escanlar.

Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts and Trinity Christian School will join Iloilo City qualifiers La Paz National High School and Hua Siong College of Iloilo and Iloilo Province’s Cabatuan National High School and Santa Barbara National High School in the next round.

Also to join them were the two qualifiers from Aklan and Negros Occidental legs to complete the cast of Rebisco Regional Finals slated from September 7 to 8 at San Carlos City in Negros Occidental./PN
