NEDA-6 proposes Bacolod-Kabankalan expressway

BY DOMINIQUE GABRIEL G. BAÑAGA

BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental governor Eugenio Jose Lacson revealed that the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) has proposed studying the possibility of constructing an expressway connecting the cities of Bacolod and Kabankalan.

Lacson made the announcement following last week’s meeting with NEDA Western Visayas director Arecio Casing Jr.

The proposed Bacolod-Kabankalan Expressway would adopt a different route, but is not going to happen anytime soon.

“Just so we don’t get excited ha, ang timetable is between 2030 to 2040 [pa],” Lacson said.

It must first undergo a feasibility study, although NEDA also wants to include it in their list of projects, he added.

If the proposed expressway pushes through, it would complement the upcoming Guimaras-Negros bridge.

The Provincial Development Council (PDC) devised a resolution in 2020 regarding locations for the bridge project, but NEDA had not acted on it. However, the provincial government is now amenable to the original plan, with Pulupandan town as the entry and exit points./PN
