ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry P. Treñas is not naming job hire employees of city hall who tested positive for illegal drug use.
Two job hires did not pass the drug test.
“Indi kita gusto ibuyagyag kay ti maguba man ang tawo. Basi ma-rehab man na sila…maluoy man kita,” said Treñas.
Earlier, Councilor Plaridel Nava expressed interest in the list of illegal drug-positive job hires to ensure that they won’t be rehired unless and until they have undergone rehabilitation and are eventually cleared from any illegal substance.
He also wanted to make sure that the list goes to the law enforcement agencies such as the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and Philippine National Police (PNP) for appropriate investigation as to the source of the illegal drugs.
Treñas, meanwhile, noted that the two job hires who flunked the drug test were not rehired, but their names will be submitted to the PNP.
To recall, Treñas required job hire and casual employees to take drug tests every quarter to ensure there are no drug users among the city government employees.
Regular employees have to comply with their drug test results as well. So far, 200 of them have not submitted their results yet.
Treñas noted that the regular employees will also be subjected to “surprise” random drug tests aside from the one required of them earlier.
He said the city government will procure drug test kits and it will be the city government-run Uswag Laboratory that will do the drug testing for regular employees.
Those found positive for drug use will be dismissed from service.
“Indi kita ka allow nga may mga drug users diri. Ipabal-on ta ang police kag ipa-undergo sila rehab sa barangay nila,” said Treñas./PN
