ILOILO City – This southern city represented by Mayor Jerry P. Treñas has been nominated to the CITYNET Executive Board.
CityNet is the largest association of urban stakeholders committed to sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.
Established in 1987 with the support of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, United Nations Development Programme and United Nations-Habitat, the network of cities has grown to include over 173 municipalities, non-government organizations, private companies, and research centers.
“Daku nga honor para sa aton syudad kon ma-elect ang city kay ma-showcase ta man dayun ang syudad,” said Treñas.
Relative to this, the city mayor will be leaving for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Sunday to attend the CITYNET general assembly and hopefully, to be elected to the board.
“Kon ma-elect, imbitaron ta sila para diri ang meeting and the city mayors coming from different cities in Asia can see for themselves what is happening in Iloilo City,” the city mayor added.
As stated in its website, CITYNET connects actors, exchange knowledge and build commitment to establish more sustainable and resilient cities.
Through capacity building, city-to-city cooperation and tangible projects, the organization helps its members respond to climate change, disaster, the sustainable development goals, and rising infrastructure demands./PN
