BACOLOD City – The Provincial Incident Management Team (PIMT) of Negros Occidental has recorded nine coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) deaths this month.

Provincial administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz said a large number of fatalities were unvaccinated.

Records from the PIMT as of Sept. 14 showed that COVID-19 deaths in the province since March of 2020 reached 2,013, while total cases since the onset of the pandemic reached 42,751 and recoveries at 40,758.

Meanwhile, as the province winds down its outdoor mask protocols, Diaz again urged unvaccinated Negrenses to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

Indi ta kabalo, basi weak ang imo immune system kag maigo ka kag madalman ka sa mga sintomas, and we don’t want that to happen to our Negrense brothers and sisters, so magpabakuna na kita,” Diaz appealed.

He also said those who have already been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are advised to also get the booster shot for extra protection.

Currently, active COVID-19 cases in Negros Occidental are at 159. Despite the triple-digit active cases, Diaz said hospitalization rates due to COVID-19 remain low and occupancy rates due to the illness are going down./PN
