ILOILO City – The district plaza of Jaro, currently under rehabilitation, will be losing its covered gymnasium and the offices thereat.

Mayor Jerry Treñas said he already conferred with the barangay captains of Jaro about this.

The Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) holds office at Jaro plaza.

Treñas said the ABC agreed to be relocated.

“I thank them for their understanding and cooperation. We will relocate the gym and the offices to another place,” according to Treñas, but he did not say where exactly.

The rehabilitation of the Jaro plaza aims to make it a more open and welcoming space with lots greenery.

The city mayor earlier shared that there are three areas, specifically open spaces, in  subdivisions in Jaro that are eyed to be the new location of the gym.

As suggested by renowned architect Paulo Alcazaren, the city government is eyeing to recreate a Bamboo Eiffel Tower that used to stand in the plaza in the early 1900s.

“We are very happy that a lot reacted to the proposed bamboo Eiffel Tower. I can only say that in Iloilo City, we do not only listen to you. We are guided by you as our ultimate bosses. We are just your servants,” Treñas expressed./PN
