ILOILO – The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) is grateful to Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. and 5th District Provincial Board member Carol-V Espinosa-Diaz because some of the requests of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Iloilo District Jail in Barangay Nanga, Pototan town have been answered.

The PDLs staged a protest on August due to their poor quality meals.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan’s Committee on Justice, Good Government and Human Rights led by Diaz conducted a committee investigation.

The PDLs’ requests to relieve the jail warden, for additional food allowance per prisoner and for dental services were granted.

The provincial government conducted a dental health mission at the IDJ.

The PDLs were also taught about vegetable planting. They were given seedlings to plant, and which could be their alternative food sources.

One PDL said this is special for them because they were given importance./PN
