ILOILO City – Through good times and bad, they have proven their dedication and passion to serve. They are called teachers, professors and mentors.
Today, their role in honing and shaping everyone’s future in different fields is being celebrated worldwide through the World Teachers’ Day.
In Western Visayas, the Department of Education (DepEd) Region 6 acknowledged the vital contribution of all “dependable and devoted” teachers in honing and shaping learners to be champions in their own lives.
“I was a classroom teacher myself and I know that teaching takes immense courage and passion. You, teachers, deserve the highest form of respect and appreciation, and we dedicate this very special day to you,” said Dr. Ramir B. Uytico, regional director.
Uytico said teachers have solidified their roles as second parents by ensuring that learners have the right education and values in a society full of trials and challenges, especially during this unprecedented educational scenario.
GREETINGS FROM WV’S EDUCATIONAL CENTER
Iloilo City mayor Jerry Treñas also expressed his warmest greetings to all the teachers.
Iloilo City is the educational center of Western Visayas and the teachers’ commitment, dedication and passion to serve the people strengthen its persistent pursuit for knowledge and learning, he said.
“The City of Love continues to gain acclaims for its achievements made possible by the creative and hardworking citizenry who are molded by the best mentors in our midst,” said Treñas.
“We are a city of achievers to include outstanding government workers, board exam topnotchers, and champions, among others. All these honors and literacy awards are attributed to our excellent teachers and educational endeavors,” he added.
Treñas assured that the city government always recognizes the vital role and significant contributions of educators in transforming a vibrant and progressive society for all.
Meanwhile, Rosally Perlas, a senior high school teacher of the Pavia National High School, extended her gratitude to the Pavia local government for honoring the town’s teachers during the 1st Municipal Educators’ Day on Sept. 30
“Salamat, LGU Pavia. My heart melts for all the service awardees, retirees and family members of posthumous awardees,” said Perlas.
P1,000 INCENTIVE
DepEd-6 regional information officer Hernani Escullar Jr. said that in line with the celebration, each teacher in the region will receive P1,000 World Teachers’ Day incentive.
Region 6 has a total of 77,364 public school teachers from elementary to senior high school.
Escullar said the regional office continues to give support it can to the teachers as a way of giving back and recognizing their efforts and services.
“Kita sa DepEd-6 yara kita naga-support sa ila mga kinahanglanon in whatever means nga pwede naton i-provide,” said Escullar.
He noted that the teachers’ untiring sacrifices have been proven especially in the midst of the pandemic wherein they continue whatever tasks they have despite the risks.
“Despite sang COVID-19 pandemic, waay nagkataka ang aton mga manunudlo agud mag-provide sang ila serbisyo because they believe that education must not stop even ano man nga crisis ang aton maagyan,” he said.
The regional information officer added that DepEd-6 also continues to empower teachers through various undertakings.
The recent program, dubbed as the Schools Heads Academy (SHA), is the country’s first academy for future school leaders which aims to upskill and rescale aspiring and emerging school leaders by producing “SHAlars.”
It advocates the welfare of teachers and school heads by initiating training programs that will capacitate them.
SHA is the brainchild of Uytico, with the ultimate goal of producing champion leaders./PN
