BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) urged telecommunications companies to inspect their posts and cables, citing that natural calamities such as typhoons regularly hit the country.
A resolution approved by the SP on Wednesday, Oct. 5, as proposed by Councilor Claudio Jesus Puentevella, stated: “As part of disaster preparedness, there is a need to diligently step up maintenance checks and clearing operations…”
Some telco posts and cables already need repair or replacement due to wear and tear, Puentevella pointed out.
Earlier, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez issued Executive Order (EO) No. 003, which created the “Bacolod City Task Force on Spaghetti Wires” tasked to remove, clear and/or reorganize “spaghetti wires” at the main thoroughfares, sidewalks, streets, roads, alleys, and public places here.
“Spaghetti wires” refer to electrical and telecommunication cables that are abandoned, damaged and not being used that have become eyesores and serious threats to the safety and health of the public, the EO stated/PN
