ILOILO City – This southern city was cited as the “most improved” among the country’s highly urbanized cities (HUC) at the recent 10th Cities and Municipalities Competitive Summit organized by the Department of Trade of Industry (DTI).
“We will continue to serve the community as we build a level-up metropolis for all,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas.
The city also ranked seventh – the highest among Visayas cities – in the “most competitive city” category of the annual Cities and Municipalities Competitive Index.
“We will work very hard to compete with the NCR (National Capital Region) cities and Davao. We are very happy that we topped the Visayas cities,” said Treñas.
DTI Region 6 OIC director Ermelinda P. Pollentes said Iloilo City did well compared to other cities in economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure, resiliency, and innovation – the yardsticks used to gauge the cities’ competitiveness.
The Cities and Municipalities Competitive Index is an annual ranking developed by the National Competitiveness Council with the assistance of the United States Agency for International Development.
“This will serve as a magnet to investors to invest in said LGU as the LGU has improved its productivity as a location. Improving productivity allows the LGU to improve the standard of living of its constituents which results to prosperity,” said Pollentes.
Iloilo City has also been cited as rank 3 in resiliency for HUC category.
“Let us continue to work together in putting Iloilo City to the next level,” Treñas said./PN
