BACOLOD City – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed riverbank protection structures on the left and right banks of the Binalbagan River located in Hinigaran, Negros Occidental.

DPWH Region 6 director Nerie Bueno said the construction of slope protection on steel sheet piles, embankments, and reinforced concrete walls with parapets – with a total length of 392 lineal meters on both sides – will prevent streambank erosion or failure.

These new structures strengthen the riverbank to prevent flooding, which may damage properties and agricultural lands along the river.

“With the completion of the protective structures, residents of Barangay Bagacay can be more at ease knowing that a structure now protects them from soil erosion and flash floods during the rainy season,” added Bueno.

DPWH Negros Occidental 2nd District Engineering Office implemented the riverbank slope protection projects with a total allocation of P154.4 million from the 2021 General Appropriations Act./PN
