1 dead, 1 hurt in Leganes road mishap

ILOILO – A motorcycle crashed into an ambulance in Sitio Calamaisan, Barangay Guihaman, Leganes town around 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 23, killing one person died and injuring another.

The motorcycle driver, Jeni Fort Villegas, 36, and a resident of New Lucena town, was declared “dead on arrival” at the Metro Iloilo Hospital in Barangay Tagbac, Jaro, Iloilo City. He succumbed to a head injury.

Meanwhile, his back rider and brother, Junie Lon Villegas, 44, is now in stable condition at the Western Visayas Medical Center.

According to Police Staff Sergeant Leo Barnuevo, investigator of the Leganes Municipal Police Station (MPS), the siblings were on their way home to New Lucena from Iloilo City while the Pototan Rural Health Unit’s ambulance was heading to the city to take a patient.

The motorcycle overtook the vehicle that it was following but lost control, causing it to collide with the oncoming ambulance driven by Ariel Quinopan of Ledesma Street, Pototan./PN
