Suspect in slay of village chief falls

CAPIZ – One of the suspects in the killing of Pontevedra town’s Association of Barangay Captains president was nabbed on Oct. 22 in Barangay Linao, Panay town.

Gilbert Berte, 27, a resident of Barangay Cabungahan, Maayon town but is temporarily residing in Barangay Monteflor, Pilar town, was arrested by the joint operatives of Panay, Pilar and Pontevedra municipal police stations, Capiz Police Provincial Office-2nd Maneuver Platoon, 1st Capiz PMC Coy Intel, 1st Capiz PMFC Trackers Team, and the Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU).

The suspect, who was identified by a witness, has a standing warrant of arrest for murder signed by Judge Esperanza Isabel Poco-Deslate of the Regional Trial Court – Branch 19 in Roxas City.

The court did not recommend a bail for the temporary liberty of Berte who is listed as the third most wanted person in Pilar and the seventh most wanted person in Capiz.

According to police, barangay captain Frederick “Dikoy” Dullano was gunned down late afternoon of July 7, 2022 while crossing Isagani-Rizal Street in Pontevedra, just outside his home.

Renante Banate, 43, of Barangay Monteflor, Pilar, who was named as another suspect, remains at large, police added./PN
