BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said yesterday President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. recognizes the right of local government units (LGUs) to regulate the entry of hogs and pork products, prompted by concerns over the African Swine Fever (ASF).
According to Lacson, close monitoring of ports and seaports in the province is ongoing.
He also said it was one of the things mentioned by the President during his visit here on Oct., 23 for the MassKara Festival highlights.
The governor also joined the President in Talisay City during the distribution of financial assistance to a vegetable farmers’ association and a farm workers’ association, which all totalled P87 million under the Philippine Rural Project.
He was also with Marcos during his meeting with the regional directors of the different government agencies and when Bacolod City’s Mayor Alfredo “Albee” Benitez presented to the President the idea of having a joint venture agreement between the LGUs and the energy providers.
“The President told Mayor Albee to submit a position paper to the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) and get the agency’s comments about it,” Lacson said.
Earlier this month, the proposal was discussed at an Energy Summit which was led by Benitez and Lacson in the presence of the three electric cooperatives in the province and Bacolod City to address energy problems, including high electricity rates./PN
