ILOILO – A man got trapped in his car that was swept away by floodwaters in Bangga Bante, Barangay Jalaud Norte, Zarraga town around 1:30 a.m. yesterday.

Roger Caro, 50, of Barangay Bololacao, New Lucena, Iloilo, died.

Police Lieutenant Raphy Señeres, Zarraga Municipal Police Station (MPS) chief, said Caro was with his cousin, Elmer Lascano, 43, of Barangay Badu, Calinog, Iloilo. The latter was the one driving the car but he was able to get out of the vehicle.

“Halin ini sa Dumangas, madasig ang dalagan. According sa mga residente didto, pag-agi niya gulpi lang siya dayon nadula. So suspected man nila nga nadala siya sang current sang tubig kay baskog,” Señeres said.

Caro and Lascano were on their way to New Lucena when the car machine broke down in the middle of the flooded road in Baranay Jalaud Norte.

Due to the strong current of the water, their car drifted and fell into a creek some 10 meters deep, Señeres added.

Caro’s body was recovered during a search and retrieval operation by the Zarraga Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and Zarraga MPS./PN
