MANILA – University of Sto. Tomas Golden Tigresses vented their ire on the San Beda University Lady Red Spikers, 25-12, 25-19, and 25-17, in the women’s division of the 2022 V-League Collegiate Challenge at the Paco Arena in Manila.

Negrense setter Cassie Carballo steered the Golden Tigresses’ attack with 12 excellent sets on top of two service aces as the España-based squad secured the third seed in Pool B with a 1-2 slate.

Ypril Tapia led UST with eight points to go along with eight excellent sets and four excellent receptions, while Camille Victoria and KC Galdones also added eight points each in the victory.

“Kailangan pa naming maitama yung mga lapses namin. Pero ngayon syempre, a win is a win. At least nandun kami sa top three ng bracket namin and luckily may chance pa kami maka-recover,” said Golden Tigresses head coach Kungfu Reyes.

Angel Habacon led the Lady Red Spikers with 12 points on eight attacks, three aces, and a block as they dropped to last place in Pool B after suffering their third consecutive defeat.

Meanwhile, Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles leaned on the strong performances of Faith Nisperos and Vanessa Gandler to escape the Adamson University Lady Falcons, 25-21, 25-23, 19-25, 25-27, 16-14.

Nisperos erupted for 27 points on 23 attacks, three kill blocks, and an ace on top of six excellent digs, while Gandler delivered 26 points on 23 attacks, two aces, and a block to lead the Blue Eagles to a perfect 3-0 finish in Pool A.

College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers, on the other hand, made short work of the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, 25-13, 25-21, 25-10, to stay perfect in Pool B with 3-0 slate.

Jade Gentapa scored 11 points to go along with six excellent digs, Michelle Gamit also had 11 markers, Gayle Pascual added 10 points, while team captain Mycah Go had nine points, nine excellent receptions, and eight excellent digs for the Blazers.

Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws recovered big from a lackluster start as they turned back the Sebastian College-Recoletos Lady Stags, 15-25, 25-14, 25-10, 25-16, to score their first win in Pool A./PN
