ROXAS City – A mobile water treatment plant (WTP) was deployed by the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6 to Sigma, Capiz. Floodwaters due to Severe Tropical Storm “Paeng” affected the sources of potable drinking water there.

DOH-6 director Adriano Suba-an, during a briefing with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Nov. 8, said the local government unit (LGU) requested for the WTP while water sources are still being fixed.

The health official also conveyed to the President the possibility of acquiring more mobile water treatment plant for Western Visayas.

Meanwhile, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. said the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) also sent potable water purification system to Antique and Capiz. The system has the capability to process 180 gallons of water every hour.

“If you still need more, just coordinate with the Office of Civil Defense. We can request additional units,” Abalos added.

MMDA’s help was in line  with the President’s directive to prioritize the provision of potable drinking water in Paeng-hit areas.

Marcos, for his part, lauded DOH and Department of Social Welfare and Development’s prepositioning of their respective logistics, saying “the effectivity of prepositioning is clear.” (PIA-6)/PN
