MANILA – Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings used a second half breakaway to beat Blackwater Bossing, 98-84, in the 2022 PBA Commissioner’s Cup last night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Justin Brownlee tallied 17 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists. Earl Scottie Thompson added 16 markers, eight boards and six dimes as the Gin Kings cruised to a 6-2 slate.

Rookie Jeremiah Gray had his best game in the PBA with 15 markers. Jamie Malonzo and Christian Standhardinger also hit double-digits in scoring with 13 and 10 markers, respectively.

Holding to a slim 49-52 lead early in the third period, the Gin Kings leaned on the exploits of Brownlee, Thompson and Aljon Mariano to outscore the Bossing, 23-11, for a 75-58 lead.

Barangay Ginebra continued its onslaught in the final quarter with Gray heating up on the offensive end as the lead reached its largest at 93-71 with six minutes left in the game.

Renato Ular tallied 20 points, Trevis Jackson added 14 markers, while reinforcement Cameron Krutwig and Mike Ayonayon had 11 and 10, respectively, as the Bossing slumped to 3-8.

In the first game, Terrafirma Dyip finally tasted a win after 25 games as it took down NLEX Road Warriors in overtime, 124-114. The Dyip improved to 1-10, while the Road Warriors dropped to 3-7.

After failing to close out the Road Warriors in the regulation, Lester Prosper opened the OT with a jumper. He and Alex Cabagnot then uncorked back-to-back treys to surge the Dyip ahead 118-112.

The Road Warriors still tried to comeback after a basket by Earl Clark but back-to-back inside conversions by Aklanon Andreas Cahilig stretched the Dyip’s lead to double-digits.

Prosper led the Dyip with double-double 50 points and 19 rebounds, Juan Miguel Tiongson added 18 markers, while Eric James Camson and Angelo Alolino chipped in 15 and 10 points, respectively./PN
