BACOLOD City – The city government aims to come up with an ordinance regulating ambulant vendors selling food.
Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez asked the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) committee on markets to come up with a legislation that compels ambulant vendors to secure permits and meet certain requirements or be penalized.
Recently, a video on social media shared by a teacher showed a worm-infested chicken bought by a student here from a vendor.
Just like what the city government did with water refilling stations (WRS), a monitoring team will monitor the ambulant vendors’ compliance to the proposed requirements.
Meanwhile, Councilor Claudio Jesus Puentevella, committee on health chair, reiterated that in August, the city council passed a resolution calling for the strict enforcement of City Ordinance (CO) No. 8-15-756, or the Food Safety Ordinance of Bacolod.
The CO mandates all entities engaged in food processing, food preparation, and selling of food and drinks in this city to properly observe food safety practices.
Puentevella also reminded food establishments and vendors to comply with and observe the food safety ordinance to minimize health risks, the spread of food-borne diseases, food poisoning./PN
