Build the Bilibid in an island

DECADES of unsolved problems at the Bilibid prison is the topic of discussion of coffee talkers this week – the engineer, golfer, retired policeman, and publicist.

“Even the former Philippine National Police chief and now senator Bato dela Rosa was never highly vocal on the issue of the special treatment of high-value prisoners inside the Bilibid. For a while he watched over the prison palace, yet the nation did not see his serious concern,” started the golfer.

“We see prison cells abroad in the movies. The politicos of this country never care at all about all the scandals in the Bilibid. To an extent, some malicious Filipinos are even doubting that politicos benefit from those illegal activities inside the prison,” the retiree expressed.

“With all the special treatment of so-called VIP prisoners, one will always suspect money is involved. Illegal drugs are said to be the main trade in the barracks and it is suspected that this is the source of some national political candidates’ election campaign funds,” added the engineer.

“Why not build a new Bilibid prison in an island? We are said to have 7,107 islands so for sure there is a small island where the government can build a new prisoners’ community. How about one in Basilan or Tawi-Tawi or Batanes? These are ideal locations for high-value prisoners,” said the publicist.

“We all agree with you, our friend. The prison palace must be isolated,” he golfer quipped.

“But most important, the new prison cell must have a 30-meter five-solid concrete wall around it and only one-entrance one exit with a five-meter single steel gate. This way, isolation will be the name of the game,” suggested the engineer. ***

“And of course, all around before the high perimeter wall will be a 30-meter deep and 15-meter curving canal to prevent easy entry-exit in the prisoners camp,” added the engineer.

“Yes, we have crazy ideas and if politicos are not connected to illegal activities, surely they will agree with what we are talking about,” said the publicist.

***

“We could not fathom why illegal drug activities inside the prison camp could not be solved by government. Even senators and congressmen are not giving it focus. Your guess could be as good as mine,” added the publicist.

***

“When will the politicos of this country ever think of the good of the nation? Politics will always be the solution or the hindrance to the progress and peace of the people,” said the golfer.

Generally, the thinking of these coffee talkers is giving sense to the issue they are talking about.

Moe juicy discussions over coffee, please./PN
