DSWD-6 establishes 28 preposition sites for disaster relief

ILOILO City – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6 has established a total of 28 preposition sites for disaster relief goods.

According to Atty. May Castillo, DSWD regional information officer, Secretary Erwin Tulfo ordered the prepositioning.

More memorandums of agreement will be forged to increase the number of preposition sites.

“It was fast for us to release the goods like during (Tropical Storm) ‘Paeng’. Day 1 to Day 2 pa lang maka-provide na sang family food packs sa mga affected families unlike in previous years nga naga-hauling pa from the warehouse to the affected sites. So there’s really a big difference sa subong kay damu preposition sites,” said Castillo.

DSWD-6 was able to release P153-million worth of assistance to families affected by “Paeng” last month.

According to Social Welfare Officer III Frenz Ornan Orbista of DSWD-6’s Disaster Response and Management Unit, P153,049,886.50 worth of assistance – which included money, family food packs and other aids – was distributed.

The province of Antique got the biggest chunk at P47.55 million, followed by Capiz (P32.87 million), Aklan (P32.52 million), Iloilo (P26.04 million), Negros Occidental (P12.33 million), Iloilo City (P1.028 million), Bacolod City (P667,559), and Guimaras (P20,064).

Data further showed that a total of 1,024 houses in the region were damaged, of which 253 were totally and 771 partially./PN
