BACOLOD City – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Western Visayas cracked down on its accredited doctors and medical clinics who are allegedly giving out medical certificates without conducting the required physical, visual and auditory tests in this city.
According to information released by LTO-6, assistant regional director Atty. Gaudioso Geduspan and LTO-6 Legal Section chief Atty. Tanya Lynne Diestro acted as poseur-clients on Nov. 22 at the K-Shine Star Medical Clinic in 888 Chinatown Square Mall.
The two were able to secure a medical certificate after paying P400 to the clinic staff, even though they were not physically examined.
Following the incident, LTO-6 issued a “Notice of Violation/Cease and Desist Order” against K-Shine Star Medical Clinic, which was noted to have “closed down”.
Based on the copy of the LTO order, the accredited doctor could face administrative action before the Professional Regulation Commission.
The LTO-6 reminded the accredited doctors and clinics to follow protocols and physically examine their clients first before issuing a medical certificate, which is a requirement when applying for a driver’s license.
