More than just a public utility

INDEED, MORE Electric and Power Corporation is not just a power distribution utility. It is, according to “I Am Iloilo City” mayor Jerry Treñas, “more than just being a public utility; it is really a partner of the city in leveling up.”

It is quite remarkable for a local government executive to say kind words to a power distribution utility that has been serving Iloilo City for just a little over three years compared to the previous power distribution utility that had been doing business in the city for almost a century yet all it got were unflattering words from the natives.

I suppose MORE Power is more Ilonggo and a far cry from the former power distribution utility and here’s why:

MORE Power’s Guardians of the Environment and employee volunteers planted 350 Agoho seedlings and 1,500 Madre de Cacao cuttings at the Global Business Power Institute in Barangay Ingore in La Paz and Barangay Lanit in Jaro last month.

The program is part of the sustainability efforts of MORE Power to create an environment that is beneficial to the future generation and raise awareness among the residents of Iloilo City.

They also did their familiar beach cleanup. This time, they picked up garbage along the shoreline of Barangay Boulevard, Molo in collaboration with the City Environment and Natural Resources Office of Iloilo City.

According to Maria Cristina D. Cabalhin, MORE Power’s Vice President for Marketing and Corporate Affairs, “Our commitment is not only to serve as the distribution utility here but also to help clean the environment.”

The team collected 59 sacks of waste materials like paper, masks, plastic bags, plastic bottles and old shoes.

And in line with the Christmas season, MORE Power sponsored and installed Christmas lights for the Sta. Ana Parish Church and Molo Plaza, and the San Jose Church at Plaza Libertad.

The ceremonial lighting of San Jose de Placer Church, Plaza Libertad Unity Christmas Tree and Sta. Ana Parish Church Harmony Christmas Tree in Plaza Molo were done on Dec. 7, 2022.

MORE Power showed its creative side by recycling old electric meters, aluminum wires and other scrap materials as foundation and decoration of the Christmas Trees.

Going back to the power distribution thingy, in addition to the first 10MVA mobile substation installed in 2020 which powered the Iloilo Business Park, MORE Power’s newest 30MVA Mobile Substation from AKTIF provides much needed electric supply to the overloaded system.

And just arrived from Turkey (AKTIF) the first compact stand alone 30/36 MVA mobile substation in the country, what makes this mobile substation unique is the state-of-the-art PASS MOO system wherein all components fit in one package; 69kv equipment-power circuit breaker, current transformers, potential transformers, disconnect switches and control elements.

It’s so compact that all these state-of-the-art equipment can fit in just two trailers with no need for additional construction because of the compact gas-insulated switchgear from Siemens (Germany) which will be used for five 13.2kV feeders.

Upon arrival it went straight to Molo Substation where it will be used as a temporary substation for at least a year while rehabilitation of old substations in the city is ongoing.

This just shows that MORE Power is really serious in its commitment to give Ilonggos a robust distribution system, reliable and efficient power by 2025./PN
