KALIBO, AKLAN – To upskill Aklanons and boost their entrepreneurial capabilities, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) brought free livelihood training to this province on Dec. 9 to 10, 2022.
Residents of Buruanga, the farthest town of this province from capital Kalibo, learned various skills like cooking on the first day of the training led by the PRO-6 Officers’ Ladies Club (OLC) in collaboration with the Foreign National Keepers Network.
The activity was funded by the PRO-6.
“It’s a great start for Aklanons reeling from the effects of the pandemic. Gusto lang po namin mabigyan kayo ng dagdag na kita kasi sa panahon ngayon dapat mayroon kayong extra na kita,” said Police Brigadier General Leo Francisco, PRO-6 director.
He shared that the skills and livelihood training was first launched in the National Capital Region, and Aklan was the first in Western Visayas to participate at such.
“We were looking at bringing this initiative to Negros Occidental and Capiz, too,” Francisco added.
Over a hundred of men and women in uniform joined the region’s top cop in Buruanga.
Meanwhile, the police force conducted the same training at Boracay National High School in Malay town on the second day.
Pinky Lyn Francisco, adviser of the OLC, is optimistic that the training will not only empower but also inspire the participants to cascade learning to their communities.
The guests were warmly welcomed by Police Lieutenant Colonel Don Dicksie De Dios, chief of the Malay police station, PRO-6 OLC president Indira Gorero, and town mayor Frolibar Bautista.
The region’s top cop thanked over 200 residents who underwent skills training and for their continued support to PRO-6’s initiatives./PN
